Invitalia Ventures manages two closed-end funds investing in startup and SMEs in Italy, alongside national and international partners.


The venture capital fund “Italia Venture I” is dedicated to start-up and innovative small and medium enterprises. The private equity fund “Italia Venture II – Fondo Imprese Sud” focuses on SMEs operating in industries showing a high growth potential, such as agrifood, mechatronics, healthcare, tourism, fashion and lifestyle.


Invitalia Ventures and its extensive network of co-investors provides family-owned companies with financial resources and professional skills to support the growth of Italian start-up and SMEs.

Sergio Buonanno, CEO and Head of the “Italia Venture I” fund

Between 2010-2017 he’s been working as Managing Director in DeA Capital Alternative Funds SGR, managing IDEA EFF fund focused on growth capital and buyout deals on industrial SMEs offering product/services supporting sustainable development. From 2007-2010 he supervised the launch and management of AlAdInn Ventures, a venture capital fund focused on cleantech, biotech and medical tehnologies. Beforehand he’s been working for over 10 years for Enel, as Investment Manager in Enel Capital and as Manager in the M&A team. Sergio has also been part of the board of directors of several firms operating in electronic, mechanics, healthcare, digital, energy, water and waste industries.

Degree in Electrotechincal Engineering and PhD in Electric Systems for Energy at Politecnico di Milano.


Francesca Ottier, Head of Italia Venture II - Fondo Imprese Sud

Since 2002, she has been developing a pluriannual experience in the private equity industry in IMI Fondi Chiusi SGR (Gruppo Intesa), as co-head of Fondo Mezzogiorno focused on SMEs of the southern italian regions, and afterwards since 2010 in Fondo Atlante Private Equity, targeting Italian SMEs with high growth potential. Before that, from 1993 to 2001 she worked for Istituto Mobiliare Italiano, as an M&A advisor and Merchant Banker. Francesca has been board member of several companies operating in the healthcare, oleodinamic, facility management and logistic sectors.
